(Review originally published on TFW’s sister blog, The Book Academy. September 2015.)

Laura Jean Covey has a secret. She used to have a crush on her older sister Margo’s boyfriend, Josh. But she got over that crush the same way she gets over all of her crushes…by writing a letter to the boys. Granted, she never mails the letters. Instead, she tucks them away in her mother’s old hatbox, thereby bringing closure to the relationships that never were.

When Margo breaks up with Josh before she leaves for college, Laura Jean’s feelings for Josh are rekindled. In the meantime, someone finds Laura Jean’s letters, addressed and stamped, and mails them to the former objects of her affection. She is then forced to confront a few of the boys she has loved before, including Josh.

What could have turned into a farce is instead woven into a lovely story about friendship, sisterhood, and love. It’s also about lies, loyalty, and the turmoil that comes along with confusing emotions. Because it is left open-ended, readers will have to seek out Jenny Han’s follow-up, P.S. I Still Love You, to satisfy their curiosity about Laura Jean’s love life.

Seriously though: I want to be friends with Laura Jean Covey. She’s fun and completely adorable. The only thing stopping me from running out and buying the sequel is the fact that I want a signed copy when I meet Jenny Han at the Texas Teen Book Festival!
